Microsoft Sway

Sway https://sway.com/
If, like me, you are thinking student presentations work so much better if you encourage story telling as the basis of the presentation than I think you should look at Sway, a presentation/digital narrative tool from Microsoft

Classroom idea: Chemistry students take an elemnt and tell its story!

Classmint

Classmint  https://www.classmint.com uses the Cornell note taking system to make useful notes and studyguides.  The video below explains system.

Classroom idea:  I have been looking for a way  to increase the return  on student created  outlines  on chapters often assigned for Social Studies classes. This tool could turn the notes into  study guides.

I worry a a bit about reducing information into bits, because I think we lose comprehension and insight that way.  So I hadn't given this tool much thought when I  saw it on Free Technology For Teachers.  When I consider informational literacy, though, I see the benefit of this tool as a presentation technique for students. And when I see infographics like this

Classroom idea:  Students compare economies of different nations using graphic stats.

Present me

Present me  http://present.me/  lets you upload a slide deck and record yourself presenting these slides by video or just audio.   The fee account lets you do 3 15 minute presentations a month.

Classroom idea:
  1.  Gives student the opportunity to hone their presentation skills.
  2. Reward the best of classroom presentations by allowing students to record their presentation and present it online on your Moodle..

Simplebooklet

simplebooklet http://simplebooklet.com/index.php#
I like to consider new ways of presenting student information.  I like this tool for two reasons :
  1. The clean lines.  The ability to  create multiple pages allows for lots of information to be presented, but not overwhelmed.
  2. The booklet ( one of  multiple options for presenting) allows for "story" or narrative.
Classroom idea: Create a catalog of  items for sale from the time period of the novel being studied.

A Holiday Card From Google

 http://www.google.com/logos/
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704774604576035500936272100.html

Google celebration logos always are of interest. The one on December 23, 2010 was a loose recreation of "Google"  with a number of interactive  images that approximated the standard Google colors of each letter. The images also led to a search  on the theme of that image.

Classroom idea : Easier version of this idea : Using Glogster ( would work best I think), Moodle , wikis or Prezi,  gathers a collection  of images to  create a collage of a word or concept, with the images somehow relating to  the word.. ,  The magic of linking or "pathing" would allow the image to be linked to a presentation about that aspect.

Favthumbs and MyJugaad.in

Here are two possible ways to present webpages. Thanks to Jane Hart's Pick of the Week.
Favthumbs http://favthumbs.com/This tool lets you see your tagged bookmarks as webpages, which are clickable.
MyJugaad.in http://myjugaad.in/

This tool lets you present webpages in a slide show format.

Classroom idea:
1) Gather the webpages you want your students to use under one tag and then favthumb that tag - a neat visual guide to sources!

2) Have students demonstrate their pathway to new information by organizing a slideshow of webpages used for a project. Or require such a collection of webpages as a way to cite sources.

Zoomit

Zoomit http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897434.aspx

Classroom idea: I am very interested in screencasting and am looking for tools that let you manipulate and draw and annotate your window screen. This nifty little download lets you zoom in on any window with a click. Once in you can draw and highlight to your hearts content. A simple punch of the escape button clears it all out. This will be great for class presentations, I think!

Glogster

Glogster http://www.glogster.com/ is a web tool that lets you create a bulletin board style web poster. This tool lets you embed videos and sound.

Here is one work in progress
Classroom idea: This would be an option for almost any poster project. I like the idea of picking and choosing the right images and text to convey a message.
