Pixton

Pixton http://www.pixton.com

This takes a little effort, but allows you to create your own comic strips.

Classroom ideas:
  • Use comic strip to give directions . Comics definitely make you pare down the words and stick to the essentials!
  • Have students create comics representing book character
  • Have students create political cartoons from current events.

Slideshare and Authorstream

Slideshare http://www.slideshare.net/
Authorstream http://www.authorstream.com/
I am not the biggest fan of students making
powerpoints, because I see so much copy and pasting and not so much reflecting. Still, I see so many beauutiful powerpoints done. Here is a way to retain and share those powerpoints. Authorstream retains animations and recorded audio.

Class idea: Have your students post ppts done for class presentations on slideshare and collect them in a wiki or blog for review. Students may listen more intently to their fellow students if they are accountable for content. This would give teacher a way to review what was done in class and create an assesment for other students, and students a mode of review.

JumpKnowledge

JumpKnowledge http://info.jkn.com/index.htm is a web annotating tool. I dismissed web annotating when I first saw it , because I thought -when will I ever want to annotate the web.

But with just a little thinking out of the box, I am excited by this tool.

Classroom ideas.
1) Have your Spanish language students create a web- trip to a Spanish speaking country, with annotations in the language being learned.

2) Create a mini webquest on any theme.

3) Pathfinders

4) Have your students annotate three or four sources with different political leanings.

Spacetime

OH! OH! OH!
Spacetime http://www.spacetime.com/
I saw this on Joyce Valenza's blog .
Lately I have been thinking we are about to make another leap in how we search and view the web. Tabbed browsing, which was such a convenient feature, seems to me like a baby step into 3d browsing. This is not the first tool I've seen that stacks web pages, but it looks like the easiest for me so far.

Classroom idea : The new way to search?
